Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program

The Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program (FYSCP) provides support services to foster children who suffer the traumatic effects of displacement from family and schools and multiple placements in foster care and has the ability and authority to ensure that health and school records are obtained to establish appropriate placements and coordinate instruction, counseling, tutoring, mentoring, vocational training, emancipation services, training for independent living, and other related services.

About the program

These services are designed to improve the children's educational performance and personal achievement, directly benefiting them.
 

Services:

  • Advocate for foster youth who are experiencing delays in enrollment

  • Expedite the transfer of foster youth health and education records to school sites

  • Assist school districts in designing and implementing services to support foster youth

  • Act as a liaison between foster youth, caregivers, social workers and educational agencies

  • Assist with the interpretation and implementation of the educational rights of children in foster care

  • Advocate for services for foster youth that increase academic achievement

  • Assist in identifying who retains educational rights for foster youth

  • Provide staff development and training for schools, partner agencies, foster families, and group home caregivers

  • Provide foster youth with activities and workshops to increase awareness of post-secondary education and career opportunities

  • Provide foster youth with educational rights workshops

  • Collect data to monitor and evaluate services
