6179.1 - Parent/Infant Home Visits

Philosophy

Any service provided to the child is a service provided to the family. Early intervention services never occur in isolation from the total picture of the child’s life, and the program must be developed and implemented with this “whole child” approach in mind.

Home Visit Procedures

Parent/Infant team members enter the home with respect for the individual social and cultural environment of each family. As guests in the family’s home, team members will be active listeners and accommodate themselves to the highly individual needs of each family constellation in order to maximize the educational benefits of the early intervention program to both the child and the parent. The team member will use the Home Activity Sheet to record various information which may include: (1) documentation that team member kept the scheduled appointment and no one was home; (2) summary of visit activities; (3) list of materials or equipment left with parent; (4) suggestions of a activities for the following week; and (5) time of next scheduled visit.
