4316 - Probationary And Permanent Status

All full and part-time classified management employees of the County Superintendent of Schools Office shall serve a probationary period of six months based on the incumbent being in paid status dating from they/them date of hire. A classified management employee who successfully serves his/her probationary period becomes a permanent employee in that classification. Successful part-time probationary service results in permanent status for the same portion of a full day.

Certificated management employees are at-will employees who do not serve a probationary period and do not gain permanency in a management position. A certificated management employee of the County Superintendent of Schools Office may gain permanency only by serving two (2) consecutive years as a teacher in a school and program operated by the County Superintendent of Schools Office and then gains permanency only as a teacher.

All full and part-time confidential employees shall serve a probationary period of six months based upon the incumbent being in paid status dating from their date of hire. The probationary periods may be extended for any time spent on extended leave. A confidential employee who successfully serves his/her probationary period becomes a permanent employee in that classification. Successful part-time probationary service results in permanent status for the same portion of a full day.

All employees not otherwise governed by provisions of these policies and a valid Collective Bargaining Agreement shall serve a six-month probationary period. This policy shall apply to all employees currently employed by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools office who have not completed 12 months in employment on the date that this policy is approved.
