Section 530A Accounts (also called 530A Trump Accounts) are a new type of federal, tax-advantaged investment account for children. They are structured as a special type of Individual Retirement Account (IRA) owned by the child but managed by an authorized adult while the child is a minor.

Who Is Eligible?

  • Any child under age 18 who has a valid Social Security number is eligible for a 530A account.
  • $1,000 Pilot Program (Baby Bonus): Children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, who are U.S. citizens with Social Security numbers qualify for a one-time $1,000 federal seed deposit from the U.S. Treasury.

The Basics

  • Get $1,000 for every American child born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028.
  • The account is fully in your child's name, and you are the sole custodian until they turn 18.
  • Let it grow on its own, or add up to $5,000 per year to maximize growth.

How to Open an Account:

  1. Confirm your child is under 18 and has a valid Social Security number.
  2. Complete IRS Form 4547 (Trump Account Election(s)). This form can be filed with your 2025 federal income tax return or submitted separately.
  3. Alternatively, use the online portal at trumpaccounts.gov
